Myanmar security forces on Wednesday opened fired on people protesting last month's military coup, killing at least 34 people, The Associated Press reports, citing accounts on social media and local news reports compiled by a data analyst in Myanmar. If accurate, that marks the highest daily death toll since the demonstrations began. The data analyst in Myanmar said the highest number of deaths — 18 — were in Yangon, the country's largest city. Three people reportedly died in Mandalay, the country's second largest city, eight deaths were reported in the central town of Monywa. Four other towns and cities reportedly experienced at least one fatality. The violence came a day after regional foreign ministers called on Myanmar's military for restraint but failed to unite behind a call to restore democracy and release jailed civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
