WATCH: This fan-made Batman vs. Superman trailer offers proof that Ben Affleck can play Batman
By using clips from 20 sources, a YouTube user has created an impressively plausible trailer for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel
It's been less than a week since Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, but it's safe to say that many comic book fans remain skeptical of the choice. We won't get to see Affleck's full performance until 2015, but one Batman fan hasn't wasted any time: YouTube user solyentbrak1, who spliced clips from nearly two dozen films to create an impressively plausible Batman vs. Superman trailer.
The trailer repurposes clips from 20 different sources — including Man of Steel, Breaking Bad, and The Dark Knight — to set up a hypothetical narrative that follows the (literally) Earth-shattering events of this summer's Man of Steel. "As much as I want to focus on cleaning up the attacks, the protection of our citizens will always come first," says Bryan Cranston, cast here as Superman villain Lex Luthor, mirroring persistent, unconfirmed rumors that Cranston will indeed be cast in the real Batman vs. Superman.
But the real show-stopper is Ben Affleck's appearance, which requires the deft weaving of clips from his performances in films like Daredevil and State of Play to turn him into a convincing Batman. "Justice doesn't discriminate," says Affleck in a monologue cribbed from the Daredevil director's cut. "It comes cold and bracing, leaving you with a chill you can't shake."
It may not be official, but the fan-made trailer is proof that Batman vs. Superman has a lot of potential — even with Ben Affleck as Batman.
