AlunaGeorge: Body Music

For pop listeners who aren’t sticklers about the calendar, Body Music should go down as “one of the year’s more enjoyable debuts.”

For pop listeners who aren’t sticklers about the calendar, Body Music should go down as “one of the year’s more enjoyable debuts,” said Andy Kellman in AllMusic.com. The first long-play from singer Aluna Francis and producer George Reid, it adds only a handful of strong tracks to the “hard to shake” electro-R&B singles that the London duo began releasing a full two years ago. Yet that’s reward enough. These two make “alternately attitudinal and heartrending electronic pop,” with Reid’s “moderately physical productions a good match for Francis’s thin, sweet voice” and “sharp, spry” lyrics. Others who’ve attempted “a similar kind of futuristic soul” rarely attain the buoyancy of AlunaGeorge’s “You Know You Like It,” said Mosi Reeves in Spin. Body Music would have been better at seven or eight tracks instead of 14, but there’s nothing wrong with being a singles band when that band rewards listeners every now and then with “a delightful few minutes of candy-coated funk.”
