WATCH: The explosive new trailer for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The comic book giant is bringing its wildly successful line of superhero blockbusters to ABC

When it comes to television, superheroes have a spotty track record at best. But for ABC's upcoming Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is set in the same universe as its $1.5 billion-grossing The Avengers, Marvel is pulling out all the stops. "For years, the truth was hidden," says a monologue that opens the first full-length trailer for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which runs opposite images of superheroes like Thor, Captain America, and the Incredible Hulk. "People from other times, other worlds. Heroes. But now we know they're among us."

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is set to premiere this fall, follows lower-level agents employed by the governmental organization led by Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in Marvel's wildly successful string of interconnected superhero blockbusters. The TV series revives Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson — whose apparent death in The Avengers turns out to be as easily reversible as most comic book deaths —alongside new S.H.I.E.L.D. agents like Ming-Na Wen's Melinda May and Brett Dalton's Grant Ward as they "work the cases S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn't classified. The strange, the unknown." Will audiences turn up to see the non-superheroic heroes in the Marvel universe on the small screen? We'll find out when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres on ABC this fall.
