Where to buy...Enrique Martínez Celaya
A select exhibition in a private gallery
Enrique Martínez Celaya is a poet of paint and bronze. The Cuban-born artist and former physicist writes before doing anything else, exploring ideas that he later works out in paintings and sculpture. Martínez Celaya cites Robert Frost’s poems and his own observations about the passage of time as inspiration for his series “The Hunt’s Will.” Painting in oil and wax, he creates large canvases heavy with imagery that suggests scenes from untold epics. In the bronze sculpture The Enchantment (2012), he ensnares a windowless house—a recurring symbol in his work—in the crook of a tree. At L.A. Louver, 45 N. Venice Blvd., Venice, Calif., (310) 822-4955. Prices range from $24,000 to $180,000.
