It’s not cheap to book a room in 1890s Vienna, said Alice Short in the Los Angeles Times. But if costs at the Hotel Sacher are steep, “the fin de siècle charm of the place is undeniable.” Brocade walls, crystal chandeliers, and great vases of red flowers greeted us in the lobby and lounges, and our “tastefully appointed” room matched that standard. Chocolate is a theme, thanks to the famous Sacher torte, a glazed chocolate cake the hotel hands out upon arrival and departure.
