Hotel of the week: The Sofitel Grand Sopot, Sopot, Poland
The Baltic town’s 127-room resort hotel has just been restored.
Up until World War II, Sopot was “one of the most glamorous resorts in Europe,” said Alexander Lobrano in The New York Times. A “brilliant renovation” of the Baltic town’s 127-room Grand Hotel has now recaptured that shimmer without wiping away a patina of faded glory. I used the hotel as a base for exploring the smart shops and restaurants in pretty Sopot, while trotting to the hotel’s white-sand beach twice daily for quick swims. Stepping out onto my balcony once, “I heard a symphony orchestra playing somewhere through the trees.” What luck it was that I found my way here. sofitel.com; doubles from $137
