Hotel of the week: Hôtel de Glace, Quebec
Open only from January 7 to March 27, Quebec's cathedral-like igloo has 19-foot carved ceilings, ice candelabras, 36 themed guest rooms, and a cafe with ice chairs.
Quebec’s Hôtel de Glace is the “only ice hotel in North America,” said Daniel Bortz in National Geographic Traveler. Constructed of 15,000 tons of snow and 500 tons of ice, the wintry retreat offers “heartwarming comforts” in Canada’s “frigid climes.” The cathedral-like igloo boasts 19-foot carved ceilings, ice candelabras, 36 “handcrafted,” themed guest rooms, and a cafe with ice chairs “cushioned with fur” to sip hot chocolate in. A winter destination only, the hotel is built every year and open only from Jan. 7 to March 27. Contact: Icehotel-canada.com
