Major corporations and industry groups that used to give money primarily to Republicans hedged their bets for this election, so as to have a greater say in Obama administration regulatory initiatives like health-care reform. Corporate political action committees gave 53 percent of their donations to Democrats, compared with 35 percent in the last midterm election.
