The tale of beauty and the bank

Debrahlee Lorenzana says she was dismissed from Citigroup because her appearance was deemed “too distracting” for male co-workers.

Is Debrahlee Lorenzana too hot for the stodgy world of banking? asked Jose Martinez in the New York Daily News. Lorenzana, 33, has filed a wrongful-termination suit against Citigroup, saying she was fired because her appearance was deemed “too distracting” for male co-workers. She says that before she was dismissed, her bosses ordered her to stop wearing turtlenecks and other body-hugging clothing. “I can’t help it if I have curves,” she says. Citi says the dismissal was performance-related.

Now Lorenzana is in hot water at her new job, too, said Elizabeth Dwoskin in The Village Voice. She says her new employer, JPMorgan Chase, recently threatened to fire her if she keeps speaking out about her suit. Apparently, the bank bars employees from “bashing the financial industry.”
