Brome Howard Inn is just what a bed-and-breakfast should be, said Zofia Smardz in The Washington Post. Set on a secluded, tree-lined stretch along Maryland’s St. Mary’s River, the “big white clapboard house” was once part of a 3,000-acre tobacco and wheat plantation located in what was the state’s first capital. Today, it’s a “genteel country inn” where the parlor glows with the light of a crackling fire, the library shelves are stacked with “out-of-date tomes,” and rooms are named after friends of the keepers, who greet guests with a complimentary glass of wine.
