Where to buy … Andrew Bush: Vector Portraits

Los Angeles
If Los Angeles is defined by its highways, Angelenos are defined by their cars—whether they are hot pink convertibles, white Jags, or barely running patchwork clunkers. Andrew Bush took most of these “portraits” of cars and drivers in the 1990s, as he drove alongside his subjects. Despite their rigorously formal composition, the results can be drolly amusing. The drivers’ rigid, bored faces contrast with the brightly colored, curved, or scalloped vehicles. Absurdly detailed titles—e.g., Man Rolling Along (Whistle Audible?) on U.S. Route 101 at Approximately 55 MPH on a Summer Day in 1989—add to the humor. 612 N. Almont Drive, (310) 550-0050. Through Oct. 15. Prices range from $4,000 to $15,000.
