Vin Diesel: ‘Fast & Furious’
Reigniting an action franchise with a 'loud, dumb movie'
Fast & Furious, starring Vin Diesel as a fugitive ex-con, said Connie Ogle in The Miami Herald, “is a loud, dumb movie” geared directly to “car-obsessed” males. But for a film that “should be all about automotive porn, the cars get short shrift.” (watch the trailer)
The latest film in this franchise is by no means great, said Lisa Schwarzbaum in Entertainment Weekly. But at least Fast & Furious is “perfectly aware of its limited dramatic mission,” and “offers an attractive getaway route from self-importance, snark, and chatty comedies about male bonding.”
And this is “the first film since the original,” said Kirk Honeycutt in The Hollywood Reporter, “to be smart about how far to stretch logic without sacrificing the desired macho swagger and revved-up emotions.” Fast & Furious is sure to “reignite the franchise.”
