He might have “more aliases than Fletch, but RZA is in his element as Bobby Digital,” said Rich Thomas in URB. The craziest of Wu-Tang Clan’s creative minds first introduced this solo alter ego with 1998’s Bobby Digital in Stereo. As Bobby Digital, RZA frees himself from the sound he developed for Wu-Tang and explores other sides of his “wayward” personality. Like the first two Bobby Digital albums, Digi Snacks is marked by “experimentation and metamorphosis” of both style and character. If RZA weren’t so “myopic” and single-minded as a producer, the album could’ve sounded scattered and indistinguishable. Instead Digi Snacks fully reveals the “virtuosity of this one-of-a-kind rap artist,” said Troy Carpenter in Billboard. The rhymes—referencing everything from Jabba the Hutt to Hunt’s Ketchup—are RZA at his weirdest. But the “intoxicating” beats are what makes this album. RZA trades the “cold, canned sounds” of Wu-Tang for smoother, softer grooves, said Roque Strew in Blender. RZA brings along strong backup in the form of Dhani Harrison on “You Can’t Stop Me Now” and Scandinavian songbird Thea van Seijen on “Drama.” Together, with his “funk outfit” Stone Mecca, they give the album a “lively, unexpected dash of soul.”
