Harpers Ferry and Fredericksburg

Harpers Ferry, W.Va.This tiny historic town at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers sprang up in the mid-18th century and is best known for abolitionist John Brown’s raid on the Armory in 1859. Fredericksburg, Va.Fredericksburg’s 40-square-block historic district is full of antiques shops and restored Colonial buildings. George Washington’s Ferry Farm, for instance, is where the first president grew up.
