Ben-Gvir, a hardliner in Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet, led a group of more than 1,000 worshippers in prayer and singing outside the Al Aqsa Mosque, on top of Temple Mount. Believed to be the location of King Solomon's temple, the hill in the heart of Jerusalem's Old City is home to holy sites for Muslims and Jews.

The Department of Homeland Security has changed the minimum age requirement and is now accepting applications from anyone 18 years or older to become an ICE agent, in a bid to quickly hire 10,000 new recruits. Previously, applicants were required to be between 21 and 40 years old.

5. Gonorrhoea

A new vaccine reduces the risk of infection by up to 40%, and has been rolled out in sexual health clinics nationwide starting this week. Last year, 71,802 people in England were diagnosed with gonorrhoea, amid a rise in antibiotic-resistant strains of the sexually transmitted disease.

6. Lithium

Researchers from Harvard Medical School found that lithium depletion in the brain plays a key role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. The study also showed that small doses of lithium could reverse memory loss in ageing mice.

The footage from the exploration of the Mar del Plata gorge, off the coast of Buenos Aires, was meant only for marine biologists – but it has been attracting more than 1.6 million views a day on YouTube, and dominating TV news broadcasts. 8. Paris

The City of Light was ranked the world's most stressful city to visit. The city crams more than 47 million annual visitors into just 40 square miles, making it even more densely touristed than New York City.

9. Mick Taylor

Taylor claims that Keith Richards gave him the 1959 Gibson Les Paul in 1967, and that he recognised it when the museum unveiled it in May by its distinctive "starburst" finish. The museum says the guitar was owned by Richards until 1971, but that it has no evidence that it had ever belonged to Taylor.

10. Bear

Typhoon Wipha made landfall in northern Vietnam on Tuesday, bringing 60mph winds and heavy rain. In the Philippines, Wipha intensified seasonal monsoon rains, triggering widespread flooding and forcing 80,000 people into emergency shelters. The typhoon has also threatened parts of Taiwan and southern China.

Although 10,000 is commonly cited as the "magic number", only 7,000 could be sufficient to feel the health benefits of walking. A large meta-analysis published in The Lancet Public Health found that those who walked 7,000 steps per day had a significantly lower risk of developing a range of serious conditions, including dementia, depression and type 2 diabetes, compared to those who walked 2,000 steps per day.

A director of a recruitment company and two associates were sentenced by a French court on Monday after being convicted of trafficking undocumented migrants to work in vineyards. Girlguiding UK says the new badges reflect the diverse interests of modern girls. The youngest Rainbows guides can gain a badge for "rescuing bees" while older Rangers are able to express their passion for "fandoms". 2. Grand Canyon Lodge

The White Sage and Dragon Bravo wildfires in Arizona have burned more than 40,000 acres and destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, built in 1937, along with up to 80 other structures on the North Rim. No injuries have been reported.

3. €2 trillion

Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said the 2028-2034 draft budget was the "most ambitious ever proposed". MEPs and member states will need to sign off on the package, equivalent to 1.26% of the bloc's gross national income, for it to come into effect when the current funding deal expires.

4. Elmo

The children's show moved quickly to regain control of Elmo's X account after it was hacked and used to share racist and antisemitic messages with its 650,000 followers. The posts were deleted, and Elmo returned with a message saying, "Thank you for being kind to Elmo and all the people in your neighborhood. Elmo loves you."

5. Portugal

Despite a late goal from Telma Encarnação, Portugal lost 1-2 to Belgium at Switzerland's Stade de Tourbillon, finishing at the bottom of Group B. The group's runners-up, Italy, became the first side to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Norway on Wednesday.

6. Unreleased music

Thieves broke into a car used by the Beyoncé's choreographer, stealing a laptop with unreleased music and tour plans just days before the start of the singer's "Cowboy Carter" tour. Atlanta police have issued an arrest warrant, although the suspect's identity remains unknown.

7. Strawberries

Donald Tusk shared the image of himself tucking into a plate of penne topped with chopped strawberries and a generous dollop of cream. The unusual meal was a tribute to Polish Wimbledon champion Iga Świątek, who had revealed her fondness for pasta with strawberries.

8. Hiding in a laundry bag

The 20-year-old inmate escaped from a jail in Corbas, France, by hiding in the laundry bag of a cellmate who was being released. The escapee was captured near Lyon the next day after 24 hours on the run.

The ruins of Peñico, in the north of modern-day Peru, date back around 3,500 years to when it was built by the Caral, the oldest known civilisation in the Americas. At a press conference announcing the discovery, archaeologist Marco Machacuay said 18 structures, including temples and residential buildings, have been unearthed so far.

4. Marco Rubio

An imposter used artificial intelligence to mimic Secretary of State Marco Rubio, contacting high-ranking officials through voice and text messages. The unknown "actor" left voicemails on the Signal app and targeted foreign ministers, a governor and a member of Congress.

5. Red Bull

After 20 years as team principal, Christian Horner has been replaced by Laurent Mekies. In a statement, Red Bull said Horner, 51, would "forever remain an important part of our team history". It had been a "difficult 2025 season", said Motor Sport, with the Formula 1 team's star driver Max Verstappen dropping out of contention for the world championship.

The White House is exploring ways to encourage Americans to have children amid declining birth rates. One proposal includes a $5,000 "baby bonus" for new parents, while another suggests awarding a "National Medal of Motherhood" to US mums with six or more children.

Nguema, a former military officer, overthrew his cousin, Ali Bongo, in a 2023 coup that ended 55 years of corrupt dynastic rule. In Saturday's election, he received just over 90% of the vote – an eyebrow-raising landslide, but seemingly an earned one: international observers reported that polling went smoothly.

The Blue Origin spacecraft launched from West Texas on an 11-minute journey into lower orbit, carrying Lauren Sánchez, Kerianne Flynn, Amanda Nguyen, Katy Perry, Gayle King and Aisha Bowe. It was the US' first all-women space crew.

The figure represents a 50% rise since a similar survey was carried out in 2018, challenging the perception that church-going is in irreversible decline. The Schmidt Ocean Institute captured the first-ever footage of a colossal squid using a high-tech robot. The juvenile squid measured just a foot long, but adults can reach up to 23 feet and weigh more than 1,100 pounds.
