Three ways to remove carpet stains
Tip of the week...
▪ Shaving cream might be the best general stain remover in your home. Use a white foaming cream and apply it directly on the stain, then let it sit 30 minutes. Blot it away with a dry white cloth, then finish by spraying the area with a mixture of one part vinegar to one part water and soaking that up with another cloth.
▪ Dish detergent cuts through greasy stains. Mix a drop or two into a cup of water, spray the stain, and blot it up. When blotting, work from the edges of the stain inward, and never rub.
▪ Club soda erases wine and beer spills—“if you use it correctly.” Wet a clean, white cloth or paper towel with the soda and gently blot the stain. If that doesn’t work, spray the stain with the vinegar-water mixture, and let it sit 15 minutes. Press a clean sponge on the stain to soak it up, repeating as needed and finishing with a warm-water rinse.
