Boring but important
Secret Service strains to protect Trump family
The Secret Service has exceeded mandated salary caps on agents who are protecting President Trump and his large family at their multiple residences, USA Today reported this week. Secret Service Director Randolph “Tex” Alles said that more than 1,000 agents have already hit the caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year, as they ferry T rump on almost weekly trips to Mar-a-Lago and his properties in Virginia and New Jersey, and escort his family members on business trips and vacations abroad. Alles said he needs Congress to lift the salary and overtime caps. “I have no flexibility,’’ he said. Some 42 people are under protection in the Trump administration, 18 of them the president’s family members.
