How to recycle old electronics
Tip of the week…
▪ Donate them. Some charities gladly accept used electronics even if the device no longer works right. Local rec centers or senior organizations are worth contacting. Dell Reconnect, a Dell partnership with Goodwill, accepts all brands of computers. American CellPhoneDrive.org takes used phones. WorldComputerExchange.org redistributes old electronics in developing countries.
▪ Find a friendly retailer. Many electronics retailers offer recycling programs, including Staples, Best Buy, and Amazon—which offers partial-value gift cards. Phone companies and manufacturers have recycling programs, too.
▪ Recycle them. Many municipalities schedule collection days for electronics. You can find recycling centers at ECyclingCentral.com, EIAE.org, or e-Stewards.org. Call2Recycle.org specializes in phone and battery recycling.
▪ Delete personal data: ConsumerReports.org can show you how.
