Charity of the week
At least 2 billion people worldwide drink contaminated water, making them vulnerable to waterborne diseases. Over the past decade, Splash (splash.org) has provided clean water to the urban poor throughout Africa and Asia, targeting specific cities with the aim of achieving 100 percent clean water coverage. The organization installs water systems in schools, hospitals, orphanages, and shelters by using distribution supply chains and purification technology already in place for international hotels and corporations in that area. Splash’s approach also involves offering hygiene education and partnering with local organizations to ensure the maintenance of toilets. Currently, Splash is working to give all 500 public schools in Kathmandu, Nepal, clean water and toilets by 2019.
