Charity of the week
Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption
There are more than 140,000 children in the U.S. foster-care system. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (dave thomasfoundation.org) is the only national nonprofit dedicated solely to finding these children safe, loving, and permanent homes. The organization awards grants to adoption agencies that connect foster children with families. It also increases awareness about children in foster care and how to go about adopting them. The foundation was established in 1992 by the late Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s, who led an adoption awareness campaign and encouraged business leaders to offer adoption benefits as part of their employee benefit plans. Since its founding, the organization has helped place more than 6,000 foster children in permanent, loving homes nationwide.
