▪ Lena Dunham has apologized for defending a Girls writer accused of sexual assault. Girls actress Aurora Perrineau recently alleged that writer Murray Miller assaulted her at a party in 2012 when she was 17. Dunham initially posted a vigorous defense of Miller, co-signed by fellow Girls executive producer Jenni Konner. “While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story,” they said, “our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported.” After a fierce backlash, Dunham retreated. “I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement,” she said. “I am so sorry.” ■
