For better search results than Google’s
Bing.com can’t beat Google for general searches. But Bing has the edge on images and videos, offering “more filtering options, a better display interface, and excellent suggestions for related searches.”
Flickr.com lets you search for images that photographers have released under Creative Commons licenses, which often make the images free to repost. The site can also filter images by color, pattern, and depth of field.
WolframAlpha.com specializes in answering technical queries in subjects ranging from mathematics, linguistics, and astronomy to history, nutrition, and sports. The site’s computational software can do everything from balancing a chemical equation to counting the number of words in Hamlet.
DuckDuckGo.com is all about privacy. The site won’t keep records of your searches, and better yet, it won’t use your inputs to pester you with targeted ads.
