Charity of the week
Bridges to Prosperity (bridgestoprosperity.org) envisions a world where geographical isolation is not a barrier for rural communities to have schools, markets, and health clinics. The organization partners with local groups and governments to build pedestrian bridges over rivers and difficult terrain, connecting rural communities to the resources they need. B2P uses local materials to design cost-effective constructions, and trains workers in the area to build and maintain their bridges. Since 2001, the organization has built or supported more than 2,000 footbridges in 20 countries across South America, Africa, and Asia, serving more than 1 million villagers. Its work has contributed to rises in school attendance, female employment, health-care access, and local business creation.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating.
