Charity of the week
Founded in 2000, Idea Village (ideavillage.org) is the first charity dedicated entirely to fostering the startup community in New Orleans. Every year, the charity runs the annual New Orleans Entrepreneur Week summit to help local business leaders network with one another and to celebrate innovation. The organization offers a variety of services to entrepreneurs and new business owners, including its flagship accelerator program, which teaches innovators to scale and fund their startups. Idea Village also provides one-on-one consulting to business leaders, and hosts monthly workshops in marketing, finance, and software development. Idea Village plays a vital role in making the city a more robust place for business; startups that have participated in its accelerator programs have gone on to collectively create 3,000 new jobs and generate more than $200 million in revenue.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating. ■
