Charity of the week
More than 387 million children around the world live on less than $2 a day. The mission of One World Children’s Fund (oneworldchildrensfund.org) is to give poorer children an opportunity to thrive by ensuring their access to education, health care, and shelter. The charity does this by partnering with local nonprofits worldwide that are working to lift children out of poverty—providing these groups with grants and free services such as accounting, bookkeeping, and fundraising support. Founded in 2000, the charity has now distributed more than $7 million to some 60 grassroots partners in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, and has helped provide 20,000 children around the world with shelter, 500,000 with health care, and 500,000 with education.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating. ■
