Ben Affleck returned to rehab after his binge drinking sank a yearlong relationship with Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus, People.com reports. The magazine says Affleck’s alcohol addiction began to spiral downward in recent months until the actor, 46, “hit rock bottom” and Shookus finally dumped him. He was photographed last week receiving a delivery box of booze and hanging out with 22-year-old Playboy model Shauna Sexton. His former wife Jennifer Garner staged an intervention, driving him to rehab. For the sake of their three children, Garner “has to take care of Ben and make sure that he gets help,” a source told the website. While in treatment, Affleck finalized a divorce settlement with Garner, agreeing to joint custody of their three young children. Upon completing rehab last year, Affleck said, “I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it.”
Prince’s family is suing Dr. Michael Schulenburg for prescribing him oxycodone and failing to diagnose the opioid addiction that led to Prince’s death in 2016. Prince died at 57 after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl, a powerful painkiller. The lawsuit says Schulenberg had “an opportunity and duty” to address Prince’s addiction, while the doctor denies any wrongdoing. Authorities say Schulenberg admitted to prescribing an opioid to Prince in the days before he died, but not the pills that proved fatal. The suit seeks damages in excess of $50,000. Prince suffered from intense pain for years from various orthopedic injuries he incurred while performing, and an investigation found hundreds of painkillers at his house.
Just as the Spice Girls revealed plans for a reunion tour, Mel B entered rehab for alcohol and sex addiction, according to The Sun (U.K.). Melanie Brown, known as Scary Spice in the group that sold 85 million records, was reportedly diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after her divorce last year from film producer Stephen Belafonte, who she says was emotionally and physically abusive. “I have been at a crisis point,” she said. Mel B, 43, admitted she blew the roughly $50 million she earned with the Spice Girls and now is “financially battered” from legal fees. Next year’s tour could net each band member $14 million.
