Charity of the week
As the largest community music school in the nation, MacPhail Center for Music (macphail.org) is dedicated to fostering a love of music and making it accessible for people of all ages and backgrounds. Founded in 1907, the Minneapolis-based organization now has 240 faculty members and serves 16,000 students at its headquarters and 127 other locations, teaching performance in 35 instruments and a range of musical styles. MacPhail is a leader in music therapy and music programs for early-childhood development, with a 50-year program that has been proven to increase a child’s pre-reading and pre-math skills. In addition to offering personal and group music lessons, MacPhail brings music education to K-12 schools, offers classes to seniors in long-term care facilities, and distributes half a million dollars in financial aid each year through its scholarship fund.
