Tip of the week
How to fly with a baby this season
Before boarding: Pay for an extra seat so your baby can rest in a car seat and you, the baby, and your seatmates will be more comfortable. Have your little one in a clean diaper at the start of the flight and choose comfortable clothes that are easy to change.
During takeoff: Nurse or bottle-feed your baby as the plane prepares to take off, because swallowing helps with discomfort caused by the change in air pressure. A well-fed baby also might just fall asleep. If that fails, consider handing out discardable earplugs with a note that says “I’m sorry about my baby!” Otherwise, just apologize if the baby cries.
During diaper changes: Many airplane bathrooms are in the galley, where the food is kept, so don’t make a diaper change with the door open. Because you will have packed some sealable plastic bags, disposing of the diaper will be easy.
