Gossip

Charlie Sheen is one year sober and ready to return to acting, he told the Daily Mail (U.K.). He says he no longer drinks, uses drugs, or sleeps with porn stars, and is in bed most nights by 9 p.m. “I got so tired of letting everyone down, and ultimately myself down,” says Sheen, 53. “I got tired of apologizing for things I couldn’t remember doing.” Once sober for 11 years, he says his HIV diagnosis in 2012 provoked a relapse, which spiraled down into bizarre public behavior and the destruction of his TV career, which had brought him $1.8 million for each episode of CBS’s Two and a Half Men. The days of claiming to be a “warlock” with “tiger blood” are over. The father of five says that for his kids, “it’s such a gift that they can just depend on me.”

Major Hollywood studios will no longer employ the original Bohemian Rhapsody director, Bryan Singer, after multiple men accused the commercially successful filmmaker of sexually assaulting them when they were teenagers, The Atlantic reported last week. Four alleged victims say they were seduced or raped in the 1990s; a man named Victor Valdovinos says he was molested by Singer on a film set when he was 13. Singer, 53, has been trailed by rumors that he’s had sex with underage men throughout his directing career, which includes such films as Superman Returns and four X-Men titles. He called The Atlantic article a “homophobic smear piece.” Singer was fired from Bohemian Rhapsody two weeks before the Freddy Mercury biopic was completed. Days later, a Seattle man sued Singer for allegedly raping him when he was 17.

Chris Brown was arrested in Paris last week after a 24-year-old woman said she was sexually assaulted by Brown and two other men at a drug-fueled party. The singer, 29, was questioned and released, though the investigation reportedly has not been closed. He filed a defamation suit and has vehemently maintained his innocence since returning to the U.S. His clothing line has begun selling $38 T-shirts that read “THIS B-TCH LYIN.” In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault of his then-partner, the singer Rihanna. In 2017, ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran accused Brown of physical abuse. ■
