Thirty-five percent of the members of Generation Z—people born after 1996—say they personally know at least one nonbinary person who uses gender-neutral pronouns like “they” and “them.” By comparison, 25 percent of Millennials, 16 percent of Generation Xers, and 12 percent of Baby Boomers know someone who doesn’t use “he” and “she.”
Washington state has declared a state of emergency since an outbreak of the measles virus (pictured) hit Clark County, with at least 34 cases of the highly infectious and sometimes fatal viral illness. Washington is one of 18 states that permit parents to opt their children out of mandatory measles vaccines for philosophical reasons. In Clark County, 7.9 percent of students got exemptions from vaccination last year.
Some colleges are now tracking whether applicants open up emails from the school, how much time they spend reading them and on the school’s website, and whether they click through to links. This effort to gauge “demonstrated interest” can determine whether colleges offer admission.
