Jennifer Aniston wanted “every single person” she’s ever cared about at her 50th birthday party last week, a source told People.com. The resulting guest list was large and contained quite a bit of potential awkwardness. Aniston’s ex-boyfriends Brad Pitt and John Mayer joined the celebration at Los Angeles’ Sunset Tower Hotel, along with Pitt’s ex Gwyneth Paltrow, Mayer’s ex Katy Perry, and Perry’s current boyfriend, Orlando Bloom. Also attending were George and Amal Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Barbra Streisand, Robert Downey Jr., and Ellen DeGeneres, plus Aniston’s friends from Friends, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox. As for Pitt, “they hugged and chatted for a bit,” the source said, “but Jen was busy making sure all of her other guests had an amazing time.” Pitt and Aniston, who divorced in 2005 when he began a relationship with Angelina Jolie, reportedly are on friendly terms.
Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland has become a national laughingstock, after Netflix and Hulu documentaries detailed the scam he pulled on would-be concertgoers in 2017. Humiliation, however, appears to be the least of his problems: Last week, a Manhattan judge ordered McFarland, who’s serving a six-year prison sentence for wire fraud, to pay back an investment company that loaned him $2.9 million before his “immersive music festival” in the Bahamas was set to take place. McFarland promised those who bought $1,200 tickets luxury accommodations, gourmet food, and other amenities he knew he couldn’t provide, and he subsequently defaulted on the loan. After failing to respond to a lawsuit, he was ordered to pay back the loan, plus interest.
When Prince Philip escaped unhurt from a car accident last month despite his Land Rover flipping on its side, many people in Britain were surprised to learn that Queen Elizabeth’s 97-year-old husband still drives. Last week, Buckingham Palace announced that “after careful consideration,” Philip “has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving license.” The crash was an embarrassment for the royal family, with Philip smashing into another car, which happened to have a 9-month-old on board. Two days later he was photographed driving a new Land Rover without a seat belt. ■
