Charity of the week
With much of Iraq still in shambles and the brutal conflict in Syria stretching into its eighth year, Preemptive Love (preemptivelove.org) is working to deliver aid, rebuild communities, and promote reconciliation peace. The charity provides Syrians and Iraqis with water, food, hygiene kits, emergency shelter, and home repair, and employs local people to help deliver aid. Its mobile clinics give lifesaving medical care and surgeries to Syrians living under siege. To help rebuild communities, the charity has empowered refugees to create businesses, including soapmaking, sewing, farming, and baking. Last year, Preemptive Love gave one month’s supply of food to more than 400,000 people, provided millions of liters of clean water to families who had no access, and helped launch 272 refugee-owned businesses.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating. ■
