A Kentucky lawmaker wants the official state rock to be switched with the official state mineral. Democratic Rep. Al Gentry, a geologist, claims lawmakers erred in designating coal as the state mineral, because coal is actually a rock, while the state rock, agate, is actually a mineral. Gentry called the mix-up “an embarrassment to geologists and earth scientists across our state.”
A California teenager is suing her high school for the right to wear a “Make America Great Again” hat. Maddie Mueller says her school in Fresno violated her right to free speech when it prohibited her from wearing the hat on the grounds that it wants to avoid disruptions on campus. “How is being a patriot in trying to show pride in your country—how is that inappropriate?” Mueller says.
