How to return a lost phone
Check for contact info. If you find a phone, you probably won’t get past its password protection. But try pressing the “emergency” button on the lock screen and calling the number that pops up. You might also find contact info taped or written inside the phone case or battery cover.
Summon the voice assistant. If it’s an Android phone, hold the home button and say, “OK Google,” then try a command like “Call Mom” to reach someone who might help. With an iPhone, the initiating command is “Hey Siri.” With a Samsung, press the Bixby button on the side and say, “Hey Bixby.”
Turn it in. If those steps fail, check the top of the screen for the carrier—Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile. If you bring the phone to the nearest affiliated store, the staff should be able to reunite it with its owner. Bring the phone to the police only once you’ve exhausted these other options.
