Charity of the week
The Women’s Business Development Center (wbdc.org) was founded in 1986 to support startups and nurture entrepreneurs’ development, with a focus on women, minorities, and veterans. The organization offers a variety of services to build up and accelerate businesses, including workshops, monthly meetups, and a nationally recognized certification program. Headquartered in Chicago, WBDC has offices across Illinois and the Midwest. Since its inception, WBDC has assisted more than 85,000 women, given thousands of training seminars, helped facilitate some $1 billion in corporate contracts, and annually handed out nearly 2,000 business certifications. Donations to the WBDC pay for emerging women-owned business to receive certification, an important tool for getting noticed by government and industry procurement programs.
