Only in America

Books criticizing Donald Trump have been vanishing from an Idaho library and later found hidden on the wrong shelves. “I noticed a large volume of books attacking our President,” explained a note in the library’s comment box; the writer vowed to continue efforts “to keep this propaganda out of the hands of young minds.” Library director Bette Ammon said the attempt at “censorship” fails because she simply moves the books back.

South Dakota’s governor is defending a widely mocked new anti-drug campaign that features the slogan “Meth. We’re On It.” Online critics said the campaign—showing the slogan over South Dakota’s outline—suggests that the entire state is “on” methamphetamines. Gov. Kristi Noem said she welcomes the reaction, since the campaign’s goal is “to raise awareness.”

House probes possible Trump perjury

The House is investigating whether President Trump committed perjury in his written testimony to Robert Mueller. Trump testified that he was unaware of contacts between his 2016 campaign and WikiLeaks, yet former deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates testified at Roger Stone’s trial that Trump and Stone spoke about WikiLeaks’ future releases of stolen Democratic emails. After one phone call, Trump allegedly told Gates that “damaging information would be coming.” House lawyers asked a federal appeals court to release grand jury evidence from the Mueller probe regarding Trump and WikiLeaks. “The president might have provided untruthful answers,” House General Counsel Douglas Letter told the judges, “and this is a key part of the impeachment inquiry.”
