Charity of the week
The United Nations Foundation (unfoundation.org), an independent organization that supports the work of the U.N., has created the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund for donations to the World Health Organization. The WHO is spearheading a worldwide effort to fight against the coronavirus—providing testing supplies, delivering personal protective equipment, setting up intensive-care units, and helping to treat those who have contracted the disease. In addition, the WHO is working to accelerate the development of a vaccine, by coordinating the research being done in multiple countries, and providing information to national governments about the pandemic’s spread. Google has currently agreed to double each donation, giving $2 for every $1 donated to the fund by April 30. Visit donate.google.com/give/covid-19 to help.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating. ■
