Police arrest 22-year-old for murder of Auburn football player

On Sunday, police in Alabama arrested 22-year-old Markale Deandra Hart on murder charges for the early Sunday shooting death of Jakell Mitchell, a redshirt freshman football player at Auburn University. Mitchell's girlfriend says that her boyfriend was arguing with a guy in the parking lot outside a party when a third man pulled out a handgun and started firing. Mitchell, 18, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The incident was at the Tiger Lodge apartment complex, a few miles from Auburn's campus; in 2012, two former football players and a third man were shot dead at a pool party in the same complex. Mitchell, a tight end and H-back, was expected to contend for a starting position on next year's team. --Peter Weber
