Kimmel v Cruz
June 12, 2018

Jimmy Kimmel will fly down to Texas to play Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in one-on-one basketball on Saturday, he announced on Monday's Kimmel Live, but Kimmel's already enjoying the game. "This will be Ted Cruz's second most embarrassing loss to a TV host in recent memory," he taunted. "If there's anyone you want to have a beef with, it's Ted Cruz. Because this is a guy who, during the election, Donald Trump insinuated that his wife was ugly and his dad helped kill JFK. So what did Ted do to retaliate? He endorsed Donald Trump for president. That's right. This is a man whose motto is: If you can't beat 'em, throw away your dignity and grovel before them like a hungry dog."

Kimmel Live even made a promotional video. "It's American versus Canadian, baller versus blobfish, Kimmel versus Cruz," the announcer says. You can watch the "Blobfish Basketball Classic" on Saturday, June 16, at Texas Southern University in Houston if you get a free ticket at KimmelVsCruz.com. And either way, you can watch Kimmel talk smack about Cruz below. Peter Weber

Jimmy Kimmel accepted Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) challenge to face him in one-on-one basketball, and Cruz has accepted Kimmel's challenge acceptance, Kimmel announced on Monday's Kimmel Live. "The backstory, in case you don't know: Ted was unhappy I compared him to a blobfish — even though, in fairness to me, he looks just like one," Kimmel said. "So this is happening — Ted man walking. We're still working out the details, but we're planning to do it Father's Day weekend." Kimmel was realistic about the challenge he faces — Cruz played varsity basketball in high school, while "I played the clarinet in high school," he said. "And yet, I think about it, I cannot imagine any scenario in which I lose this game to that greasy blobfish — there's just no way."

Speaking of sports, Kimmel marked Trump's 500th day as president — "I have to say, it feels like it was only yesterday that it was his 1,000th day in office" — with a highlight reel of "all his many accomplishments." Watch below. Peter Weber
