While the House was voting to impeach him Wednesday night, President Trump was in Battle Creek, Michigan, holding a freewheeling rally for a crowd no larger than 5,400, according to the local fire chief, though hundreds also watched on a TV screen outside. At 2 hours and 2 minute, the rally tied Trump's record for longest speech, and "many attendees were streaming for the exits before he concluded," the Detroit Free Press reports.
Trump took the occasion to lament his impeachment and attack Hillary Clinton, his 2020 Democratic rivals, the FBI, ObamaCare, and Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) and her late husband, former Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.). He also praised the tax overhaul he signed two years ago and the regulations he plans to cut, circling back to his line about flushing the toilet 10 to 15 times — and complaining about how the media covered that comment.
Trump is now complaining of media coverage of his previous comments about people flushing toilets 15 times. This is the weirdest Trump rally in a long, long time. https://t.co/B7J3PaSLuL
Trump also repeated his claim that newer light bulbs, not his European makeup, make him look orange, and he added another appliance to his list of apparently inconveniently conservational targets: the dishwasher.
Trump says that you used to press a dishwasher once and it was an "explosion" and five minutes later steam would come out. "Now you press it 12 times. Women tell me."
