Reality star Kim Kardashian West went to the White House Wednesday to discuss prison reform with President Trump.
Already the socialite has been in contact with Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and senior adviser, to advocate for the pardon and release of 62-year-old Alice Marie Johnson, who is more than two decades into a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. Earlier Wednesday, Kardashian West posted a tweet indicating Johnson's plight was on the day's agenda:
Happy Birthday Alice Marie Johnson. Today is for you
"I've been in communication with the White House and trying to bring [Johnson's] case to the president's desk and figure out how we can get her out," Kardashian West said in an interview this month. "If you think about a decision that you've made in your life and you get life without the possibility of parole for your first-time nonviolent offense, there's just something so wrong with that."
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to offer advance details of the Wednesday visit, only confirming it would happen. Bonnie Kristian
