long live the king

The king stays the king.

A day after tennis great Serena Williams was named The Associated Press' Female Athlete of the Decade, NBA superstar LeBron James was crowned the news agency's best male athlete over the last 10 years.

It wasn't a particularly easy decade for James, who beat out the likes of Tom Brady, Usain Bolt, Lionel Messi, and Michael Phelps, for the award, but it was certainly fruitful. James actually began 2010 as one of the NBA's primary villains when he spurned the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat in the controversially televised "Decision" and then failed to deliver a title his first season after taking his talents to South Beach.

But he quickly came back into favor after finally capturing two championships in Miami, and then returning to Cleveland to bring the long-suffering sports city a championship. His performance in the 2016 NBA Finals against the vaunted Golden State Warriors was one for the ages, culminating in an iconic chase-down block of Andre Igoudala to help seal the come-from-behind series victory. James left Cleveland again in 2018, but his fans were much more understanding this time when he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

All told, James cemented himself as one of the greatest players of all time between 2010 and 2019, rising to no. 4 on the all-time scoring list, winning three MVP awards, and playing in eight straight NBA Finals.

Off the court, one of James' major accomplishments was opening a school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, which became an immediate success. Read more about James at The Associated Press. Tim O'Donnell

Thailand officially has a new king.

For the first time in seven decades, The New York Times reports, a new monarch took the country's throne. King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun was formally crowned in a coronation ceremony in Bangkok on Saturday. The 66-year-old, per Thai custom, is now considered a deity. The people of Thailand reportedly showed great enthusiasm for the event, chanting "long live the king."

The crown that King Maha Vajiralongkorn received reportedly weighs a hulking 16 pounds.

Thailand's last coronation took place in 1950 when King Maha Vajiralongkorn's father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, ascended the throne. He ruled until his death in 2016, making him one of the world's longest-standing monarchs.

"I shall continue, preserve, and build upon the royal legacy and shall reign with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the people forever," King Maha Vajiralongkorn said during the coronation.

The highly anticipated trailer for Black Panther has finally landed. Featuring a knockout cast — including Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Chadwick Boseman in the titular role — the Marvel universe-set film is scheduled to hit theaters in February 2018.

The story follows King T'Challa's return to his homeland of Wakanda after his father's death, only to find an enemy who threatens to bring down the entire kingdom. "This is a killer trailer," raves Collider. "It not only shows off a ton of action sequences, outrageous costume design, and comic book goodies for fans out there, it also brings an unmistakable sense of style that's all Black Panther's own." The film is directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler, who most recently helmed the 2015 Rocky spin-off Creed.

For the chronologically minded, Black Panther is set in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War. Marvel's next film, Thor: Ragnarok, will be released in November. Turn up your volume, and watch the Black Panther trailer below. Jeva Lange
