It’s a record that local residents never wanted to break in the first place: On Sunday, Boston received 2.9 more inches of snow, making this the snowiest winter in the city since records started being kept in 1872.

The official total at Logan International Airport was 108.6 inches, The Boston Globe reports, an inch more than the previous record set during the 1995-96 winter and dozens of inches more than the winter average of 43 inches. Meteorologist Frank Nocera said the snow's not over yet, either — the region could see more of the white stuff on Friday and next week.

The Boston Globe interviewed several local residents, who for the most part said they were over the snow, the cold, the wind, and everything else that hit them this winter. Joe Ferreira of the South End had his own optimistic view, though: "We were miserable, but at least now we're miserable champions."
