Harper Lee, who won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize for her novel To Kill a Mockingbird, has died at the age of 89, according to multiple sources in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. With over 30 million copies in print, To Kill a Mockingbird examined race and class in the 1930s Deep South through the eyes of two children.

Lee had been in uncertain health for years, and lived a famously reclusive life, declining to give interviews. Her second novel, Go Set a Watchman, was published last year.
