Good day, Bad day
A setting Sun, Healthy paychecks
GOOD DAY FOR: A setting Sun, after “center-right” daily The New York Sun said it will cease operations at the end of the month if it doesn’t get new financial backing. The Sun “has yet to achieve its financial goal of making a profit,” said editor Seth Lipsky, and rising printing costs and tightening ad revenue have left the paper with “substantial” losses. BAD DAY FOR: Healthy paychecks, after a survey by Mercer consulting found that 59 percent of U.S. companies plan to tamp down rising health care costs by raising their employees’ deductibles or copays. Health care costs will rise an estimated 5.7 percent next year for both employers and workers. “It’s not something to cheer about,” said the study’s author, Blaine Bos. (AP in BusinessWeek.com)
