GOOD DAY FOR: Green shoots, after U.S. job losses fell to 247,000 in July, a far smaller number than expected and enough to bump the national unemployment figure down to 9.4 percent, from 9.5 percent. It is also the first dip in jobless numbers since April 2008. The Labor Department figures are the latest sign that the economy is turning around. (Reuters)

The Hovinds argue that since they are employed by God, they needn’t pay income or property taxes. (Mother Jones)
