Even in some of the most remote places in the world, you can find a five-star resort, said The New York Times. But rarely one as austere and in tune with its surroundings as this “19th-century resort in the icy Swedish hinterlands.” Situated along the Arctic Circle, the Fjällnäs Reserve was once a retreat for Swedish royalty but has reopened as a luxury resort. The 1,700-acre complex houses “40 tundra-chic suites that showcase the surrounding glacial lakes, jagged mountains, and wildflower fields.” The Chapel of Contemplation, as well as the earthy Mii Gullo spa, makes Fjällnäs seem more sanctuary than hotel.
