Reliving The Iliad

Salamis, Greece
Archaeologists said this week they have found a 3,500-year-old palace that once belonged to Ajax, an ancient Greek king who was one of the great heroes of the Trojan War. Archaeologist Yannos Lolos, who found the ruins, said the artifacts belong to the Aiacid dynasty, Ajax’s line. The palace was apparently abandoned around 1180 B.C., the same time the city of Troy fell. That means Ajax would have been the last king to live there before he left for the war. "This is one of the few cases in which a Mycenean-era palace can be almost certainly attributed to a Homeric hero," Lolos said.
