The week's news at a glance.

Dublin

Dublin got a taste of Belfast-style rioting last week, when Republican protesters tried to stop a Loyalist march. Love Ulster, a group that wants to keep Northern Ireland in Britain, was holding a rally when a group of Republicans, who support reuniting the province with Ireland, showed up for a counter-rally. The groups first fought each other and then turned on police, throwing rocks and flares, torching cars, and smashing shop windows. Six officers were injured, and 13 people were arrested. Justice Minister Michael McDowell said the government had no hint that such a clash was coming and had prepared only “for a low-key event.”
